Newcastle upon Tyne (usually shortened to Newcastle) is a large city in north-east England. Situated inside the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear (and formerly the county town of Northumberland[1]), Newcastle is situated on the north bank of the River Tyne, and was founded in Roman times under the name Pons Aelius.
